Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa approves minimum wage increase for 2025.

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, enacted the law that establishes the update of the national minimum wage for 2025.

The measure predicts an increase of 50 euros, to 870 euros, in line with the objectives set by the Government, which described the decision as "a significant effort to support those most in need".

"The President of the Republic has promulgated the Government diploma that updates the value of the guaranteed minimum monthly wage for 2025", as read on Notícias ao Minuto, about a note published on the Presidency website.

In 2024, the national minimum wage was set at 820 euros, representing an increase of 50 euros compared to the previous value.

The decree that formalized this update was approved by the Council of Ministers at the end of November. During the announcement, the Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, highlighted that this increase is "a fair and significant raise, well above what had initially been promised by the PS Government".

The ruler also emphasized that this decision is part of a concerted trajectory with social partners, which establishes as an objective that the minimum wage reaches over 1,000 euros by 2028.

This change reflects the commitment made by the Executive to improve the living conditions of workers with lower incomes, contributing to greater social justice.
