The notice is made by lawyer Anton Radchenko, as mentioned by Notícias ao Minuto, explaining that, according to EU legislation, passengers can receive between €250 and €600, depending on the flight distance and duration of the delay.
Specialist in defending consumer rights in the aviation sector and founder of AirAdvisor, a startup dedicated to the topic, the lawyer clarifies that there is a regulation that allows to request compensation.
According to Radchenko, the first step in situations like this is to contact the airline's customer support service to obtain detailed information about the reason for the interruption, preferably in writing. He also recommends keeping all documentation and evidence and not accepting vouchers or gifts as a replacement for a refund.
"It is common for these vouchers to include clauses that not only exempt the airline from the obligation to refund the ticket, but also make the passenger waive any compensation for the cancellation of the flight," it warns.
Regarding refunds, the amount depends on how far in advance the flight was canceled and the distance of the trip, varying between 125€ and 600€. Let's see next.
Flight cancellation between 14 and 7 days before departure:
Less than 1,500 km - Delay of 2 hours or more on arrival: €250
Less than 1,500 km – Delay less than 2 hours upon arrival: €125
Between 1,500 km and 3,500 km - Departure 2 or more hours early and arrival 3 hours late: 400€
Between 1,500 km and 3,500 km - Departure 2 or more hours early and arrival less than 3 hours late: 200€
More than 3,500 km - Delay of 4 hours or more upon arrival: 600€
More than 3,500 km - Departure in advance by 1 hour and arrival with less than 4 hours delay: 300€.
Flight cancellation with less than 7 days notice:
Less than 1,500 km - Delay of 2 hours or more on arrival: 250€
Between 1,500 km and 3,500 km - Delay of 3 hours or more upon arrival: €400.
More than 3,500 km - Delay of 4 hours or more on arrival: 600€
More than 3,500 km - Arrival delay less than 4 hours: 300€
