Nearly a third of Portuguese people consider emigrating: Here are the main reasons.
According to a study, around 32% of Portuguese people consider emigrating. But why?
These are the main reasons why Portuguese people consider emigration.
A study conducted by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), "Consumer Sentiment Survey", shared by Notícias ao Minuto, revealed that 32% of Portuguese are considering emigrating. This number reflects dissatisfaction with the political, fiscal, and social reality in Portugal, as well as the search for better professional opportunities.
What are the main reasons for emigrating? About 37% seek better professional prospects, and 36% point to political, fiscal, and social dissatisfaction as a determining factor.
Among those most likely to emigrate are 64% of young people between 18 and 24 years old and 34% of individuals with a university education. On the other hand, only 17% of people aged 55 to 64 and 29% of those without higher education consider this possibility.
Manuel Luiz, managing director and partner at BCG, highlights that this phenomenon reflects the mismatch between the expectations and ambitions of young and qualified individuals compared to what the national job market offers.
Factors more and less valued in the workplace.
The respondents revealed to give importance to:
- Flexible schedule and autonomy (24%).
- Balance between personal and professional life (23%).
- Healthy and collaborative work environment (20%).
Less valued:
- Purpose and meaning of work (13%).
- Workplace flexibility (12%).
- Other benefits such as fuel, car, and gym (6%).
Only 25% of respondents prefer the fully face-to-face model, although 73% still work exclusively this way. This mismatch reflects the need for transformation in working conditions in Portugal to contain the emigration trend.
